Run an effective activity using these details
For more on the Key Factors: Hope, Trust, Compassion and Stability
VERSION 1 – Using only KEY FACTOR Cards
In a conversation with an individual or a group, explore the need and actions to affect the Key Factors of change.
- Familiarise yourself with the four KEY FACTOR cards. (NB: The Key Factor cards can be purchased separately or as part of Change Design Principles Cards Starter Set 1.)
- Start a conversation with a person or a group.
- As the conversation progresses, listen deeply for words and ideas that indicate the current situation.
- Place the four KEY FACTOR cards on a flat surface and reflecting on what was said in the conversation, together decide the state of each Key Factor in the current situation.
- Imagine three rows with the bottom row representing Low, the middle row representing Neutral, and the top row representing High.
- Place each card on the row that best represents the current state. (See image below)
- Make a choice about which 1-2 KEY FACTORs you want to give priority attention. Decide what attention is needed, e.g. maintain the state, or increase the state.
- Imagine a set of actions or activities that will create the desired effect for the chosen KEY FACTORs.
- For all (or a subset) of the imagined set of activities, make plans to design and implement the activities.
- Keep in mind when designing and implementing the activity, that your choices reflect how you want to shift or maintain the current state of each KEY FACTOR.
VERSION 2 – Using PRINCIPLE Cards as well as KEY FACTOR Cards
In a conversation with an individual or a group, explore the need and actions to affect the Key Factors of change.
- Familiarise yourself with the four KEY FACTOR cards. (NB: The Key Factor cards can be purchased separately or as part of Change Design Principles Cards Starter Set 1. )

- As the conversation progresses, listen deeply for words and ideas that indicate the current situation.

- Place each card on the row that best represents the current state. (See image below)
- Make a choice about which KEY FACTOR you want to give priority attention, and decide what attention is needed, e.g. maintain the state, or increase the state.
- For the chosen KEY FACTOR, select five PRINCIPLE cards (in small groups or just for yourself) that you think are most relevant to enact the necessary attention (i.e. maintain the state, or increase the state).
- Looking at the PRINCIPLES individually, as combinations or the whole set. Imagine a set of actions or activities that will create the desired effect for the chosen KEY FACTOR.
- For all (or a subset) of the imagined set of activities, make plans to design and implement the activities.
- Keep in mind when designing and implementing the activity, that your choices should align to the chosen PRINCIPLES.
